When it comes to telling stories, it’s about time the spotlight shone on women’s voices. That’s where the Women International Film Festival (WIFF) steps in. Born out of a movement called Women Through Film, WIFF is all about closing that gender gap in digital storytelling and filmmaking. It’s not just a festival; it’s a stage for women to express themselves, tell their stories, and spark some real social change. Over the past seven years, WIFF has grown into a much-anticipated event, supported by big names like the European Union and the British Council, and has brought its unique flair to cities across Pakistan.

In 2021 I was tasked to dive into the deep end with WIFF. The goal? To create a unique visual style for the brand that would define all aspects of its evolving identity – social media posts, stationery, print designs, proposals, booklets, and animations. It was all about bringing the festival’s spirit to life, making sure each piece of design not only looked good but also told a story. I wanted everything to scream “cinema” in its own way, to echo the essence of what WIFF is all about.
Steering clear of the usual illustrated, super-colorful route, I went for something more real, more film-like. Think lens flares, light leaks, that classic film grain texture – all those little details that make you think of an old-school cinema. I swapped out illustrations for actual photographs, giving everything a more photorealistic touch. It felt more honest to the medium of film. Each design element was a nod to the world of cinema, aiming to not just promote the festival but to capture what it feels like to lose yourself in a great film.
